The Texana Living History Association is a non-profit
501(c)(3) organization dedicated to teaching an accurate history of all
cultures equally, in particular as they relate to Texas.
Texana volunteers present exciting portrayals of the
legends of Texas. Each historical figure is in the room with you as if
actually reliving his or her life experience in full costume. It’s not
a lecture—not a storytelling—it is live theater based on true
historical facts!
Texana volunteers also present demonstrations of
pioneer skills in an authentic camp or chuckwagon setting. Students
experience first-hand spinning, campfire cooking, driving cattle,
quilting, churning butter and more. |
President’s Letter

Well we are finally getting there! The new newsletter
format and distribution method seems to be a hit with the people I have
talked to. They seem to enjoy being able to get it electronically via
the website. This has impacted our budget positively as it has cut down
our cost of printing and mailing by a large percentage. Members without
computer access or who just desire to receive the paper copy will still
be mailed their copies. We are still investigating printing Texana
specific material for the members on some newsletters and possibly
publishing two newsletters that will be more general Texana in nature
for our institutional or non-member recipients.
Our annual membership meeting was a huge success! All
the directors were elected and the board of directors elected the
following officers: Bob Welch-President; Tom Bristow–Vice President;
Cindy Vaillancourt–Secretary and Annette McMullen–Treasurer. We had
a visit from one of Texana’s favorite circus persons in the appearance
by Molly Bailey as performed by LaJuanna Faught in a very pretty new
outfit.
Exciting times are ahead as Farmers Branch and Texana
have teamed up to do a joint, two day event on February 28 and March 1,
2003. The 28th’s event will be the annual Farmers Branch
Texas Independence Day Celebration and our own Texas History Alive will
be the next day on March 1st. Farmers Branch will be handling
most of the location activities while Texana will assist with
performances and demonstrations. Please, please keep these dates open
for us as we will be needing all kinds of support to assist with this
event.
Our craft demonstrators have already been booked to start their new
special craft programs in schools. For their money, the school will be
getting a quality demonstration of their skills in spinning, weaving,
quilting and the like. Anyone interested in assisting
