Lizzie Johnson, Cattle Queen

(1840-1924)

Lizzie Johnson accomplished many things in her life. She was a teacher, accountant, investor and independent businesswoman. However, her best know persona was that of a respected cattlewoman but she was still very much the lady. She earned the status of an early Texas “Cattle Queen” by registering her cattle brand under the name of Elizabeth Johnson in 1871 and is thought to be the first woman in Texas to ride the Chisholm Trail with a herd of cattle that she acquired under her own brand.

Hear tales of cattle drives, her unconventional marriage including a premarital contract and the history of Texas from the  early 1860’s through the end of the cattle era.

Lizzie is portrayed by Cindy Vaillancourt
