Barbara Welch

Barbara has been a member of Texana for over 10 years. Her family ancestry is German and she draws upon her background to share the important part that the German Immigrants played in the history of Texas. She combines her story of hardship, endurance and triumph with another love, which is spinning. Her spinning wheel mesmerizes students of all ages as they learn about the everyday life of the Texas Pioneer Wife and Mother.

In addition to demonstrating spinning, weaving and fibers, she loves to interact with children with hands on involvement during her presentation. Barbara also portrays several composite characters at our campsites and Pioneer Life Skills Demonstrations and Workshops. Recently Barbara has started portraying Margaret Houston, wife of Sam Houston. Ironically her husband of 24 years portrays Sam Houston for Texana.

She attends Central Christian Church in Richardson where she is very active with the Women’s Ministry and teaches 2nd grade Sunday School.
